United Kingdom Wimpers from the Gate

Champions League time and last year's impressive showing by English squads (taking three of the four semi-final spots) is looking like a distant memory. That is of course if you ended the season today and let the team's with the most impressive play move on. But this is the Champions League and as Roma fans know, you can win the first meeting and get annihilated the second.

Okay. . .sorry. . .just good memories these Champions League games are. Anyways, I just watched Liverpool/Porto and I have to say that Liverpool looked sad. Benitez even pulled his usual rotation scheme in the Premiership to accomodate for this game but alas, Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Celtic, limped to draws and a defeat (respectively). If Porto plays the entire 90+ minutes of every game the way they played Liverpool today in the first ten minutes then it could be 2004 all over again. But Porto slowed down and Liverpool held on. Is this a sign of the times? Will England not have a shot at all (or most) of the glory this year? Time will tell. . .but the Champions League has just begun!
